English Premier League (EPL) club Manchester City (Man City) has once again showcased its friendly club image.
The club posted two photos of midfielder Bernardo Silva, 29, and defender Nathan Ake, 28, posing under a red maple tree on its official social media accounts on Sept. 7 (KST).
Under the photos, City wrote, “Autumn in Korea,” with the caption, “It’s that time of year when the leaves are falling. Enjoy autumn with Manchester City,” along with the caption, “Autumn in Korea,” referring to Korea’s fall colors.
City, which was home to the 2019 women’s national team, Lee Kum-min (29, Brighton WFC), does not have a strong connection to Korean men’s soccer, so its fan base is relatively small compared to the likes of Son Heung-min’s Tottenham and Park Ji-sung’s Manchester United in the league.
However, City’s love for its Korean fans is remarkable when compared to other clubs. They send greetings and congratulations on every holiday, celebration, or special occasion, including New Year, Chuseok, Children’s Day, SATs, and the first snowfall.
City even celebrated in 2020 when filmmaker Bong Joon-ho swept four categories at the 92nd Academy Awards for Parasite, becoming the first Korean to win Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best International Film. After the victory, he took City on a trophy tour to showcase the trophy in person.
In July, City embarked on a pre-season tour of Korea. Through Coupang Play, the team faced off against Atletico Madrid at the Seoul World Cup Stadium and attracted a lot of attention. 무지개토토 도메인
At the same time, City’s signature players Elling Holland and Kevin De Bruyne were interviewed by local broadcasters, raising awareness among Korean fans. In the case of De Bruyne, who is known in Korea as “Kim Duck-bae,” he even appeared on an entertainment program that generated a lot of buzz. The name “Kim Deok-bae” is a play on the first letter of De Bruyne’s English name, “KDB,” which means “Kim Deok-bae.
