“Next time, I want to do well in the WBC and Premier12.”
Jang Hyun-seok (18-Masan Yongmago), who became the first high school player to be selected to the Korean national team at the Asian Games, confidently stated that he would like to compete in international tournaments in the future.
Speaking to reporters after returning home with the national team through Incheon Airport on Aug. 8, Jang said, “Of course I want to go to international competitions. Being a member of the Korean national team is definitely a position to be proud of. If they call me enough, I can respond,” he said, adding, “I have a desire to go to the WBC or Premier 12 with my seniors and do well.”
Jang Hyun-seok, the No. 1 pitcher in high school, decided to go overseas instead of playing in the KBO and signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. There was some controversy over his injury as he did not pitch in practice before being called up to the national team, but he proved his fitness by throwing a 150-kilometer fastball in a practice game. At the Hangzhou Asian Games, he pitched the first game of the preliminary round against Hong Kong and the Super Round against China.
In the top of the seventh inning with a 3-0 lead against Hong Kong on the first day, he gave up a hard-hit ball to the leadoff batter, but then struck out two more batters to keep the game scoreless, and in the bottom of the eighth inning with an 8-0 lead against China on the sixth day, he gave up a hit to the first batter and a triple two batters later to give up a run. Jang gave up Korea’s only run of the day.
“I would give myself a grade of 80,” Jang said of his pitching at the Asian Games, “but there were some things that were disappointing in the first game against China.”먹튀검증
Playing with professional seniors at the Asian Games was eye-opening. “I felt a lot of things,” Jang said, “I felt that amateur balls are just amateur balls. The professional world was different, from warming up to weight training, everything was different. I watched my seniors and thought about what I would do when I got to the U.S.,” he said.
“My brothers are amateurs, and it’s a big deal that they were selected, but they gave me a lot of praise for throwing well, and they told me that they all struggled, and they encouraged me to work hard and go up (to the major leagues) and do really well in the U.S.” Jang Hyun-seok revealed that he wants to go to the big leagues as soon as possible.
“I want to visit my elementary and middle school teachers and spend time with friends I haven’t seen in a long time,” said Jang, who hasn’t yet set a schedule for when he will go to the United States.
