The Korean men’s volleyball team wrapped up the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games with a disappointing seventh-place finish.

The men’s volleyball team (ranked 27th in the world) narrowly defeated Indonesia (ranked 57th) 3-2 in straight sets in the seventh place match on Saturday at the China Jingbang Sports Center Gymnasium in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, China.

Heo Soo-bong (Hyundai Capital) was the top scorer with 29 points, followed by Jeong Ji-seok (Korean Air) with 15 points.

The Koreans, who came to the tournament in search of their first gold medal in 17 years since the 2006 Doha Asian Games, overcame a shocking 2-3 loss to India in their first group match.

They defeated Cambodia to reach the round of 12, but a 0-3 loss to Pakistan left them without an Asian Games medal for the first time in 61 years. India is ranked 73rd in the world, 46 spots lower than South Korea.스포츠토토

The next day, they earned a shutout victory over Cambodia, who are not even ranked in the world, but were thrashed 3-0 by Pakistan, ranked 51st in the world, without winning a set in their quarterfinal match on the 22nd.

It was the first time in 61 years that South Korean men’s volleyball had finished on the podium in 14 consecutive tournaments, from the 1966 Bangkok Games to the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games.
