The ROAD FC Global Tournament has been running since June in two weight classes: Bantamweight (-63kg) and Lightweight (-70kg). The bantamweight final pits “Asia’s Strongest” Kim Soo-cheol (31, ROAD FC Wonju) against “Gladiator Champion” Akira Haraguchi (28, BRAVE GYM), while the lightweight final pits “Korean Naturalized Fighter” Nandin Erden (Korean name Kim In-sung, 36, Team Finish, Namyangju) against MFP No. 1 Artur Solovyev (29, MFP).
With two Korean fighters making it to the tournament finals, Korean fight fans were thrilled. Kim Soo-cheol and Nandin Erden’s triumphs in the quarterfinals and semifinals were all the more rewarding because they defeated stiff competition in the quarterfinals and semifinals.
In the quarterfinals, Kim defeated Russia’s No. 1 ranked MFP bantamweight Alexey Indenko (34, MFP) with a guillotine choke in 55 seconds of the first round. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Bruno Azevedo (33, PHUKET FIGHT CLUB) by unanimous decision. Coming into the fight, Bruno Azevedo had a record of 19-3 and was the man to beat.
After defeating so many strong opponents, Kim has endured grueling training to win the Road FC Global Tournament.
“I’m so happy that he has good character,” Kim said of Nandin Erden. I’ve seen him since he was an amateur, 10 years ago… He’s come so far since then. It’s great to see a guy who doesn’t give up.”
In the quarterfinals, Nandinjerden defeated Filipe Jezus (31, PHUKET FIGHT CLUB) by submission at 1:43 of the first round, and in the semifinals, he defeated Japanese Team Shooto Pacific Rim champion Shutaro Devana (38, COBRA KAI) by submission at 4:33 of the first round.
Fight fans have high hopes for Kim and Nandin Erden, as they have defeated some of the biggest names in the sport. All eyes will be on the two fighters representing South Korea to see if they can pull off a win.
