It was Seoul’s third straight win against Suwon, snapping a six-game winless streak. With their first win under acting head coach Kim Jin-gyu, Seoul jumped to third place with 43 points.

Suwon, on the other hand, continued their humiliating six-match winless streak at home against Seoul (1 draw, 5 losses) and failed to close the gap on 12th-placed Gangwon (21 points) with their second straight defeat.

Seoul took away a lot from the game, including three points, an escape from a draw, a leap to third place, and their first win under acting coach Kim Jin-gyu. In fact, goalkeeper Choi Chul-won was the main reason for the victory, as he stopped all of Suwon’s onslaught in the second half to hold on to a thrilling one-point lead.

After the game, Choi Chul-won, who was named the Man of the Match, said, “We prepared eagerly for each game. I’m glad that we came together as a team today and finished the game with a victory.”

When the final whistle blew, Choi collapsed on the grass and savored the victory. “I was happy and happy,” he said, “but I also thought a lot about how I had been playing poorly. So I had mixed feelings. I had a lot of thoughts,” he said, reflecting on his emotions.

“My former coach always told me not to wrap my head in my hands. He told me that it would be better to go out on the field and work out one more time and prepare like that. I think it was great that I continued to prepare even in such a difficult situation.”

On the day, Choi made six saves in the second half alone to preserve Seoul’s victory. There were several near-goals, but none of them escaped him. When asked if he made more saves because the ball was coming at him or because he was flying at it, Choi replied, “I think I made more saves because I was flying at it.”

After his man-of-the-match performance, Choi was asked how much of the victory he thought he deserved. “I don’t think I contributed 100%. I felt a lot from the back when I watched all the players fighting and desperately playing together these days, so I think I contributed a little bit.”

The Seoul players also expressed their gratitude to their ‘guardian spirit’ Choi Cheol-won. “After the game, my teammates congratulated me a lot. They said, ‘We won because of you.’ They also said that they had a lot of trouble. “They said that (the late John) was my brother, (I) was Sang-ho, and everyone else,” he explained.

Even though it was a big match, Choi tried to focus on each shot. “I always want to show a good performance,” he said, “but life is the same. But life is the same, it doesn’t always work out the way you want it to. I thought about it, but I put it aside and tried to focus more on the ball and immerse myself in the game.”

Choi is in fierce competition for the starting job with another goalkeeper, Baek Jong-beom. When asked if he was confident, he said, “We always have to compete. I’m looking at it positively because we grow together through him,” he said, adding, “I hope today will be a turning point. If there is a turning point, I think it will be today’s game.”
